Thank you for visiting my website. I am a painter, and all of the works displayed on this site are original oil paintings. I have been painting off and on throughout my life, but I never really concentrated on painting until I retired in 2013.
Every so often someone says to me, “I wish I were creative…” or, “I wish I had been born with artistic talent.” I am not sure that is how it works. Although I appreciate that being able to make art is a gift, I don’t believe artists are simply born with something called “talent” or “creativity.”
In his best-selling book, “The Outliers,” Malcom Gladwell advances the theory that if you want to become really good at something, the most important thing for you to do is to practice doing that particular thing. As an example of what he means by practice, Gladwell cites the ten years that Mozart spent writing symphonies before he produced his first true masterpiece. Gladwell obviously is talking about serious practice. His research suggests that 10,000 hours of practice is required for mastery, regardless of what it is you are trying to master.
In trying to reach at least some level of mastery, I estimate that I am somewhere near the half-way point; my painting practice time is approaching 5,000 hours. Therefore, I am not promising that you will find a masterpiece among the paintings displayed on my website, but some of the practice has turned out nicely enough, so you may see something you like.
Anywhere on this website, if you click on the image of a painting, that painting will come up individually, enlarged along with its price and its title (if I have given it one). Except for paintings already in someone’s collection, every piece of art displayed on my website is for sale. As noted above, this is serious practice.
