Like most artists, Michael goes through phases, and at the moment he is not in one of his "still life phases." However, there will be more still life works in the future, and as in the past, many of them will be somewhat unconventional. For example, the painting shown above of the "little green apples" was done on a canvas four feet wide.
Another off-beat "still life" is offered below - "Tumbleberries."
"The idea of fruit flying through the air - well, don't ask me where that came from, I can't explain it," Michael comments. Tumbleberries is part of a series of three paintings done a few years ago, using traditional oil paints on heavy archival paper. All three are shown below, just for the fun of it, even though two are now in private collections. "Waiting to Pick One Off," was selected for the 2017 exhibition of the prestigious Hoosier Salon, in Indianapolis. "The judges apparently liked the notion of blueberries riding on grapefruit," Michael explains. "No telling if that crow ever was able to catch that last blueberry."
The definition of "still life" also is stretched a bit with the three paintings in which Michael pays homage to Vincent Van Gogh, also shown below. "I love Van Gogh's paintings, and I just wanted to see if I could come anywhere close."
All paintings are original oil on canvas, except for "Tumbleberries," which is on heavy archival paper, mounted under plexiglass. The prices are exclusive of shipping costs (if any), and Michigan or Florida sales tax unless the painting is purchased to be shipped out of state).
